As light and dusk converge, and both succumb
to the night, and the unpicked fruit withers
on the vine and wastes away to dust; thus
does love, once dazzling shone, falter in
soaring flight, as its beacon flickers
before fading out, in a world of lies and
distrust.
That love, at first an unbreakable bond,
oft’ weakens with passage of time; its
unshakeable rock eroding, as if blasted by
rays with a mirage view, When third-party’s
stealth is confronted in a partner’s moral
decline, reality dawns that transcending
love, may be proven forever untrue.
Two people torn by emotional stress, caught
up in a discourse of shame, What price those
vows intoned with joy, as they lye discarded
and broke? Which carnal bent smashed promise
sincere, as if in a pugilists’ game? Who was
to blame for that eaten fruit, revoking the
pledge at a stroke?
Two hearts once entwined in chemistry form,
now diverge in angry adieu, and the
faith-built dreams all shatter, to languish
in minds’ disarray. The selflessness turns
selfish, just as daylight yields to a deeper
hue, and loves extinguished flame lies
quenched, till dawn of another day.
